40 Years a Clothier

Jim opened his first men’s clothing shop in 1978, expanding, moving and adding women’s clothing in ‘84,  then opening a Roots Canada franchise operation in ‘85. Jim Adams was a busy retailer, husband and father of 3. Very happy but not content. Elected to the Board of Directors to Kingston’s downtown business association in ‘86 and later its Executive, Jim enjoyed volunteering for several committees including advertising, marketing, special events, the Blues Festival and the multi-purpose event venue in his over 25 years of service.

Jim loved the position teaching retail and marketing programs at St. Lawrence College for several semesters part-time. While maintaining his passion as a retailer he traveled Europe as a consultant for a Canadian wholesale brand for two weeks twice a year for several seasons. Jim moved and expanded his roots store in ‘95, opening a second Roots shop in ‘98. Slowing the pace in 2008 Jim turned his Roots stores back to Roots Canada but in 2010 decided to re-brand his men’s and women’s business in a beautiful expanded space where it continues successfully today though Jim no longer is involved.

Special Stuff

One of Jim’s proudest achievements is his involvement with  “Movember”, where he and his shop sponsored a team of guys raising over $300,000 over a 5 year period for men’s health in Canada.

Jim is also honored to have been presented with the Kingston Chamber of Commerce Tourism Customer Service Award. In recognition of many years supporting Tourism Kingston and marketing Kingston as a visit destination.
